City Commissioners' Meeting Notes
04/22/2009
Notes from the April 22, 2009 City Commissioners Meeting:
Polling Place Changes
The polling place in ward 58 division 14 was moved from a municipal building to the Anne Frank School at Bowler & Hoff Streets. This move was approved by Democratic Commissioners Marge Tartaglione and Anthony Clark, but Republican Commissioner Joseph Duda voted against the change. Commissioner Duda suggested the Republican representative present, appeal the change in court.
The May 2009 Ballot
The Commissioners voted to approve the May 2009 ballot, available here. The ballot was changed from that of previous years by adding an additional row to the Democratic columns in order to better space the crowded rows of Judicial candidates and pull the races for Judge and Inspector of elections further up the ballot face. The approved ballot has four columns of Democrats, two columns of Republicans and two ballot questions.
Partisan Polling Places
Joe DeFelice, Philadelphia Director for the PA GOP, brought to the Commissioners’ attention six polling places in the homes, or building of elected party officials. A 2006 law bans the use of elected officials, or party officials’ homes to be used as polling places. The Commissioners responded that they believe all polling places housed in the homes of these party officials were moved after the 2006 law, but that they will look into the claim.
