Municipal Court Judge

The Job

Philadelphia voters will elect four judges to he Philadelphia Municipal Court. The Municipal Court has limited jurisdiction, handling criminal cases with maximum prison sentences of five years or less, and civil cases with various different amounts in controversy, depending on the type of case.  All adult criminal cases begin at this court (and most adult felony preliminary hearings), but may be appealed to the Court of Common Pleas for a new trial.
