Pew Council Study 2011

The Pew Charitable Trusts' Philadelphia Research Initiative has just released a comparative study of Philadelphia's City Council and the legislative bodies of 14 other major cities.

Among the findings:

- Philadelphia's Council has the longest average tenure for members (15.5 years);
- The average cost-per-member - $1.1 million per year - places Philadelphia sixth;
- The average salary for Council members - $127,107 - places Philadelphia fourth;
- Philadelphia's Council takes the longest summer break (12 weeks off).
