Hi, I'm Sarah Stevenson, Assistant Policy Director at the Committee of Seventy. I started at Seventy in June 2006 as a law and policy intern and became instantly addicted to the place. I've been here ever since.
I'm a Philadelphia native and have spent all but six months of my life in this City. I was born in Fairmount but moved to the northern suburbs with my family when I was three. I attended Springside School and the University of Pennsylvania, and in May 2007 I received a JD/MPA from Villanova. Between college and law school I moved to Washington, D.C. for a change of scene. There, I coached rowing at a girls' school in Georgetown and hawked sneakers at City Sports. Then, of course, I came back.
I've spent a lot of time at Seventy researching the City Charter and other comprehensive policy issues, most recently municipal ethics and personnel management. I also have a strong interest in encouraging citizenship and public participation in municipal life. Fittingly, much of what Seventy does helps increase voter turnout and educate the electorate.
I'm involved with various organizations around the City, including the Please Touch Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Philadelphia Bar Association. My professional interests include constitutional law, virtue ethics and city management. I love baseball, roadtrips and being outdoors (running!). I have aspirations of managing a City department one day, or writing novels.
