The Committee of Seventy today called upon City Council to adopt a stricter approach to amending the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter. In a letter sent yesterday to Council President Anna Verna and other members of Council, Seventy expressed a growing concern about the proliferation of proposed Charter amendments, including eight on the May 15, 2007 primary election ballot.

This morning, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Charles “C.P.” Mirarchi, 3rd will be permitted to keep his job as a Deputy City Commissioner. Two weeks ago, Mirarchi was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to fraud for his role in a ticket-fixing scheme.
