Committee of Seventy - Special Projects Coordinator
Overview of Position:
The primary responsibility of the Special Projects Coordinator (SPC) is to co-direct our Election Day Voter Protection Program. The Committee of Seventy conducts the oldest and largest local volunteer voter protection program in America. Our goals are: (1) to ensure that every eligible voter is able to successfully cast his or her ballot, (2) to minimize the opportunities for voting fraud and intimidation, and (3) to make the voting process as simple and rewarding as possible in order to help increase voter participation over time.
Other projects undertaken by the SPC depend on the year and Election cycle. Recent projects have included organizing workshops on how to run for political office, speaking engagements on the importance of voting and volunteering, networking with area organizations and conducting media outreach.
Duration of Position:
Full time from date of hire through 2010 election cycle, with the option to extend.
Job Responsibilities:
• Work with Seventy’s staff to recruit, train and assign volunteers
• Manage Seventy’s volunteer database communicate information to volunteers
• Identify community organizations to work with and increase Seventy’s community outreach
• Establish creative new ways to recruit volunteers and communicate the opportunity and use of the program
• Help maintain up-to-date elections-related information on Seventy’s website and build additional website content
• Work with Director of Voter Services to analyze and report on Election Day findings
• Collaborate with partner organizations on voter education events and create new opportunities for Seventy
Qualifications:
• Previous organizing or campaign field experience
• Experience working with diverse communities
• Ability to work both independently and as part of Seventy’s entire Voter Protection Program team
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs – proficiency in Excel is a must
• Previous marketing or web communication experience a plus
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus
